Protect PDF

Protect PDF adds a password to a PDF document so it can only be opened by someone who knows that password. It’s the tool to use before emailing anything with sensitive content — a signed contract, a financial statement, an ID document — to make sure that if the email itself is ever forwarded, intercepted, or lands in the wrong inbox, the file inside it still can’t be opened without the password.

Why Use This Tool

There’s an obvious irony in protecting a sensitive PDF with a password by first uploading that same sensitive PDF, unprotected, to a third-party server. Talzos avoids that problem entirely: the password is applied to the file locally, in your browser, so the unprotected version of the document never travels anywhere before being locked.

How It Works (Expanded)

Upload the PDF you want to secure and set the password you want to require to open it. Once applied, the download is a standard encrypted PDF that any PDF reader will prompt a password for — there’s nothing proprietary about the lock, so the recipient can open it in Adobe Reader, Preview, or any other standard PDF viewer as long as they have the password.
